Karoo semi-desert

We arrived on the west coast of South Africa at the end of July, passing through the Karoo, a semi-desert region. The Karoo is stunning and vast, with hills covered in succulent plants alternating with low shrubs, sheep, ostriches, and small antelopes. Surprisingly, there are also fruit orchards and vineyards—lots of vineyards! We bought excellent and affordable red wine, around 55 South African rand (which is less than €3) per bottle. The mountains are mostly plateaus, and we even saw snow on the peaks. Occasionally, rocks emerge from the hills, and the soil is a vibrant red color. Despite the dry climate, there are several water reservoirs for irrigation.
